my web-browsing this morning uncovered an interesting entertainment tid-bit. apparently pre-production is starting for an Aeon Flux movie… with Charlize Theron in the lead role? not too sure i buy it. Aeon Flux was my favorite part of MTV’s (unfortunately) short-lived, mostly animated Liquid Television show… but a live action movie? it just sounds destined to lack merit. i mean… i’m still pretty bitter about the mockery they made of Daredevil…

i got mail today from the UK. so very cool. so very par avion.

also, i have nothing of value to add to your life today. i’m a little bored… too much routine of late. however, hanging out with the fam was fun yesterday for father’s day. i am the only male in our family who’s not a father. something tells me they all have a little bit more life experience than i do. funny to think about, considering how often i get to some “place” in my life and feel like i’ve got it decently together… as if i have somehow “arrived.” but there’s much to learn. which is good… it gives me hope that boredom is only a temporary thing… as long as there is much to learn, there is much to do and to think about, and as John Piper puts it so succinctly, “…imagination is the key to killing boredom.” strange that an artist struggles this much with being bored, eh?

by the way… having trouble deciding what to give me for my birthday? with less than a week to go, i can help you out in your time of need. i’m nice like that. i think the trooper is about to die for permanent… sad. so… money towards the “get joshua a vehicle that will go more than 20 miles at a time without blowing up” fund is appreciated. if that’s a bit too blase for you, there’s always this (large, in blue) or this (large, in brown) or this (large, in red) or this (large, in green, on sale) or this (large, in gray) or this (very large, in white… in my driveway.)

i’m ridiculously helpful, aren’t i?

i am sitting in our local coffeehouse… and thus far i’ve heard creed and blink 182. i’m sorry… not coffeehouse music. that is all.

did i mention that we went to see some local amatuer wrestling the other night? i don’t think i mentioned that. we did. it was… what it was. but we did manage to get the ladies into the ring (post-event, pre-blood clean-up) for a photo opportunity. and they also requested a desktop… so now they get a desktop. and men everywhere swoon….

after much thought and research (ok… more like some thought and research… and a simple “you need…” from Chris) i finally signed-up for a Netflix account. and now? soon to arrive in my mailbox: The Boondock Saints, Ronin, and Owning Mahowney.

somehow i think this is going to be addictive.

fun times with the big sis last night… Old Navy shopping and all. she bought cute shirts… i bought a women’s belt. (what? it’s a hott belt… seriously.) and then some Burger King and a Blockbuster stop. i think it’s time to break down and do this summer viewing pass thing with them. it’s just not financially smart to plunk down $7 a few nights in a row in there when there’s a better deal.

last night was an ridiculously awesome movie night though. i got Wasabi… a french-with-subtitles, set in Japan, written/produced by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Professional, and The Fifth Element) action/comedy. or something. nonetheless… it was enjoyable. pretty much anything with Jean Reno in it is typically enjoyable for me.

the other… the greatness… so good that when my laptop battery died half way through the moive (at 2:00am) i got up off The Non-Motivational Couch, got dressed, drove to the office, got the power supply to my laptop and drove back home to finish watching the movie…. yes, that good… David Mamet’s newest masterpiece Spartan. forget the fact that Val Kilmer is the lead role… i usually want to hit him with something heavy… but Mamet has such a way with storyline and dialogue… so wonderful. go rent it tonight. then, since you’ll dig Mamet’s writing so much, go rent Ronin, The Edge, The Spanish Prisoner, and, if you can take some over-the-top language for the sake of an amazing story, Glengarry Glen Ross.

man, i hope my wife likes watching movies…

black & white & read all over… or something.

got the pleasure of finally seeing Shattered Glass last night. (you can read all about Mr. Glass’ adventures in journalism here.) the movie was great…. highly recommended.

and now… meetings.

i’m starting to think that when i redesign this site this fall (and hopefully move your browsing experience from here to yourcreativitydollarsatwork.com) that i’ll need to do the blog thing and a little daily news feed for all the random design-related links i keep posting. like this… free symbol sets from aiga in .eps and .gif

i mean… i’m sure some of you come here for my drama and some of you come here for the links… and there’s no shame in that, but i might as well make it easy for you to find the one without wading through the other.

wow… very interesting article on Fellowship Church’s use of technology.

tokyo plastic finally updates… proceeds to rule you.

so, for all you folks who have a little integrity and actually buy the music you listen to (but still enjoy getting stuff for free)… did you know amazon has a free MP3 download page?

word.

some good stuff in there, some not-so-good stuff in there… but it’s free.

i know these having been making the rounds on the web for the past few weeks (months?) but i still find them highly entertaining because they make me feel 7 all over again. Super Mario Brothers on piano and, perhaps even more impressively, on guitar… with some very interesting tone.

the most entertaining referrals to my site are always of the google/yahoo search variety… mainly because they’ll take words from different posts. if someone typed in “funky butt loving,” my site might be one of the search results, as long as those three words appeared somewhere in the hunderds of posts i have (even if that phrase never appears intact on my site.)

yesterday… i got a referral from someone who typed in “lindsay lohan CLEVAGE.” (yep, caps and all…)

perv.

hey Jason Zada… fix your email so it stops kicking my emails back to me. i want to tell you how wonderful you are.

the nerve of some people.

oh my crap.

to say i am excited about this movie would be a large understatement. best “kid’s” books i’ve read in a long time.

more pictures of beauty in the ordinary, this time from the fellows at defender.

you know, this pic almost makes me miss my dreads… but then i remember the joy of not having a neckache from holding them up all day… and i’m o.k. with my lack of hair. considering that lately i can’t make it more than about three months without freaking out and cutting my hair… i am amazed i ever had long hair in the first place.

by the way, the photo is from San Fran’s own talented and (perhaps, though i know not) lovely Jason Zada who has this dandy little daily photo blog… one of my first stops when i get to the office everyday.

what an amazing eye for beauty in the ordinary…

Harry Potter rocked me and rolled me last night. dang good.

most likely going to see the new Harry Potter tonight. and eating Chick-Fil-A. both get the “mmm” award.

other movies on the horizon… Some Kind of Monster, a documentary about the unraveling/putting back together of Metallica (i doubt you have to be a metal fan to appreciate it…. but the fact that i was/am… makes it even better), Open Water… which looks to be a real thriller that doesn’t resort to cheesey tactics to scare you (remains to be seen), The Stepford Wives… which needs no fanfare to accompany its ensuing greatness, Tom Cruise’s Collateral… which almost makes you believe he might be able to actually act, Maria Full of Grace… which will, of course, never show anywhere within 100 miles of here, and… the crown jewel of soon to be released films…

Garden State. Natalie Portman… i want to kiss you in an otherwise vacant airport.

sigh… i like movies.

i ate hotdogs for lunch because i was in a hurry. gross.

planning a road trip for this week… wednesday night and OUTRAGEOUS THURSDAY™ (it’s been awhile, eh?) originally i was going to head up to charlotte to see Gavin Degraw and stay with my friend Blaine… but Blaine forgot that he was going on vacation with family this week (ok, not really, he just got his weeks mixed up.) so… while i could still go… new option: go to atlanta and see Justin Rosolino play and get quality hang out time with Sarah and Salina. granted, Justin is talented, but Gavin Degraw is amazing… then again, good musicians in the company of friends out-weigh great musicians in the company of strangers. …and… i could take lots of pictures downtown.

at any rate, i still have around 52 hours to decide what to do… which is really the equivalent to an eternity for the non-planner.

in other news: there’s an interesting interview with Shaun Inman over here. i don’t know why, but i am absolutely fascinated by hearing about how designers/creative-types go about doing their thing on a daily basis. (and i’m even more fascinated by seeing their work environments.) i’m sure that there’s even a capacity for someone else to be fascinated by how i do things and what my office looks like while i’m doing it… although that thought seems ridiculous to me.

artists are so weird.

also… i got macromedia flash today. welcome to the world of motion graphics.

the asian version of cereal and milk? file under: go to class and stop wasting my time.
