It’s been a fun snail mail day here at the office. Mcd got the NOOMAâ„¢ dvds. In addition to being so well done and thought out in their content… the whole packaging/identity for the company is great. Who sits around and thinks… “Why don’t we use #2DC6D6 as our only color?” Freaking smart people, that’s who.
Well done media from Christians. I am happy.
SWEET! Monte Montgomery tonight. You don’t even know.
I got Andy‘s album in the mail today… right before it went out of print apparently. Yay for good timing. He’s great… bring on the non-unplugged stuff. Pretty please? He’s too good to not have a band.
LB and I took in a late showing of Napoleon Dynamite last night. And the theater was completely empty. Not another soul. We could have made out and none of you would even know it. However, I can fill you in on every detail, nuance, and plot twist (what?) of the film… so it’s a safe bet nobody got lucky last night…. at least not in our little corner of the multi-plex. I’m fairly sure there’s no way the movie could live up to the hype surrounding it…. but it was entertaining and quite funny.
Lately, Netflix has been bringing me the awesome, slightly-addictive-ness that is the first (and unfortunately last) season of Firefly… a sort of sci-fi/space/western ensemble show from Buffy writer/creator Joss Whedon. He’s got a knack for writing really engaging drama, especially when it’s packaged in something other than the ordinary. Can I tell you how hooked I am? Too bad I only have a few more episodes to watch before it’s all over. Or is it?
Five of my favorite things occurred last night: driving in torrential rain, watching What About Bob?, quality time with friends, finding Keith Urban on Live From the Bluebird Cafe, and stumbling across The Karate Kid just in time to hear “Daniel Laruso is going to fight!” and “Get him a bodybag!” (There was a big need for large amounts of exclaiming to really drive home the weight of 80′s movie dialogue.)
In other news… i’m still tired. It’s really beginning to get ridiculous. I’m getting plenty of rest, going to bed and getting up on the same schedule, taking my day off, working out, and even (gasp!) virtually cutting out soft drinks in the past week just to see what happens. No dice… still tired. I wake up tired. Everyday. Do you know how annoying that is?
Maybe i’ve got mono. Or maybe i’m just bored.
A few more things…
1. How do you like the blue? The drab was bringing me down.
2. I have quite a few gmail invites if anybody still wants one.
3. Monte Montgomery… this Thursday night.
4. Sleeping At Last… next Thursday night.
5. Rain, rain, go away…
So… I lost my “too good to be true” ebay bidding last night. Which is most likely a good thing, considering I get to keep the money and put some of it towards finally getting my own hosting from the fine folks at Media Temple (which means the www will be up soon) and considering that I got an email from ebay this morning basically saying the seller of that item has been removed from the little ebay family for fraud. What?
Ebay fraud… it’s a sad, sad world sometimes.
And today… meetings.
I’m currently the high bidder on one of those “almost too good to be true” ebay auctions… with an hour left. What are the odds?
The last time this happened, I lost out on an Everett by a dollar with 8 seconds left. Let’s hope this isn’t a repeat of that day.
Anyone tried Google’s photo album software Picasa yet? As an Apple user, i’d have a hard time believing it’s anything that iPhoto isn’t… but I am curious.
Oh yeah… during my lunch break I went to see what thrift stores were open. Our Goodwill had two $600 couches. Read that sentence again. Now, tell me what happened to the “thrift” part?
I was starting to wonder why the internet was so quiet this morning… and then I realized that it’s Labor Day. I’m slow every once in awhile.
We are, of course, rocking it out at the office today. Both of the roomies moved out this weekend (while I slept, actually) and so during my lunch break today I start the quest to reclaim my dining room. I need a swank table and some non-matching chairs. Thrift stores… here I come.
I’m restless. It’s in my DNA… I can’t ditch it, no matter how hard I try. I dig my job and feel complete confidence in where I am right now… but on the rare day when I want to pack up and go… not just lip service, but actually wanting to move my body to another location far, far away… jobs like this sound awesome.
And then I realize… hey, idiot… you have a job this awesome, and lucky for you it’s a church… you’re not using what little artistic ability you have to hock beverages or cell phones or tampons… it actually matters. Not to mention to the amount of creative freedom and direction I get to have here.
And thus God verbally kicks my ass yet again. In a good way.
In an unprecedented first, Mcd posted a sort of play by play of my Jammin Java set on Thursday… during the set. I’m famous-ish now. I feel all warm and funny and special… like care bears left rainbows in my mailbox… or something.
Fun times last night at Karl and company’s casa. A couple of interesting games of Texas Holdem poker and some roadside cheering for the sweaty runners in the Midnight Flight 5k and 10k that go right by her house. By the way, I really like playing card games. It doesn’t matter which one really… they’re just plain fun. Especially when I win… massively.
In other news, Napoleon Dynamite finally opened here this weekend. The hazards of semi-small town life. I believe the Mcd and I will be partaking of an early showing this evening.
Hydragraphik Studio has some swaaaaank posters right now. Unfortunately, they’re not for sale yet. They should be though. Although I do so enjoy the 80′s Floridian Condo feel of the wallpaper in my office, I need some posters for my walls.
For those who love the mid-tempo folk rock, i’m playing in Columbia tonight at Jammin Java around 9:00ish.
In an attempt to separate things a little (not that you don’t enjoy the wild jumble of pop culture/design craziness going on here) I decided to move the little bit of photography I take over to www.photowrk.blogspot.com for your perusal. I can’t promise a daily photo, but i’ll do my best to give you guys something on a semi-consistent basis. There are a few photos from the Nashville trip up now, as well as a close up of Mcd… I love your face.
For future reference, there’s a link in the sidebar. —>
I’m pretty sure i’ve linked this before, but it’s so cool it bears repeating. Cina simply asked some designers to submit 5 sites that they like in the following two categories: resource sites (sites that you actually use in your daily routine) and design sites (design-related sites of people you have no/little contact with. so no ‘friends-list.’ just people’s work you admire.)
The results are informative, useful, and elegantly presented… basically everything that good design should be.
