Daddy, I don’t get it, but I swear her eyes follow me around the room.
I Use Magic: Morning was shot stop motion style with a digital SLR still camera. Stop motion always reminds me of PBS shows from my childhood. Outstanding video.
Paul Graham on how to do what you love. “When you’re young, you’re given the impression that you’ll get enough information to make each choice before you need to make it. But this is certainly not so with work.” Fantastic article.
Panic, a great little company that makes Mac software (like Transmit) also at one time created an mp3 player called Audion in the time before iTunes (some of you might remember those dark days.) Here’s the story of Audion straight from Panic co-founder Cabel Sasser.
It’s official. The more i’ve thought about it, Charlie is dead to me.
Whenever it’s possible, I try to host any videos I might post on here, that way i’ll have a copy of them and I know the links will always work. So when I posted Birds the other day, I fully expected everyone to love it, because hey, it’s AWESOME and it involves slow motion flying dogs and lasers and honestly, who doesn’t love that combination?
What I didn’t expect was that my hosted url would get linked on k10k (among others) and passed around the internet. Nor did I expect the onslaught of emails I got from folks who thought that I made the video, which I didn’t (unfortunately.) So, in an attempt to give credit where credit is due, I did this as quickly as possible, which will hopefully send people towards the genius of Pleix, the wonderful folks who made the video and deserve all the credit.
Viva la FRANCE!
(By the way, all you new folks that stumbled your way here in the past few days, “Ahoy!” Welcome to my little weblog. Feel free to come back. We have fun here (mostly.)
I don’t use Widgets (heck, I don’t even have OS X Tiger, nor do I see the need for it) but if I did, SnatchEm Widget is something I would make frequent use of. It lets you download multiple media files and/or documents for offline viewing just by specifying the URL and types of files. In addition, it is ridiculously CUTE.
I read a lot (though not nearly enough) and I always have trouble finding the optimal way to hold open a book. The Thumb Thing Book Holder might be the answer. Clever design.
Say “goodbye” to Absolut Vodka’s long-running bottle-shaped ad campaign. While I understand their reasoning (they’re losing market share to higher-end brands like Grey Goose), from an artistic standpoint, this is sort of sad.
BB&T Corp. won’t lend money for commercial projects on land seized by the government through eminent domain. Interesting bold move from a smaller (in the grand scheme of things) bank. The recent changes to eminent domain policy (our government can now take land for private use, like condos, if the project is deemed to “serve the public good”… which is open to interpretation) are a bit scary to be honest.
Last night’s episode was WEAK. I mean seriously, disappointingly, all-encompassingly WEAK. Could someone just kill Charlie (and Claire for that matter) and put us all out of our misery? They have rapidly de-evolved into boring characters.
However, oddly enough, the bright spot came from a character who may have redeemed herself from my hatred with one simple, un-ironically delivered line of slang dialogue. Hearing Anna Lucia say, “You hittin’ that?” in reference to Jack and Kate made me spit apple juice all over my floor.
But the episode still sucked.
Wikipedia (the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit) founder Jimmy Wales has issued a personal appeal to users of the site. “[Wikipedia] is a radical strike at the heart of an increasingly shallow, proprietary and anti-intellectual culture. It is a radical strike at the assumption that the Internet has to be a place of hostile debate and flame wars.”
A few pages from a 1930′s Montgomery Ward camera catalog. All of those cameras are beautiful.
Ryan Russell shot an amazing photo set of Mastodon filming their video Seabeast.
Paul English compiled a cheatsheet to get to an actual human operator on automated phone systems. Banks, government agencies, stores, etc. (via Kottke)
Axl Rose says, “people will hear [Guns n' Roses] music this year.” Suuuuuure we will, Axl. And nice cornrows, by the way.
How to make a camera monopod/tripod mount from a bottlecap. Handy for camping and such. I think i’ll make a Nalgene-Bottle-compatible model.
Uncrate is a web magazine for guys who love stuff. So far so good… they post some great finds like this swank leather iPod case and books like The Golden Age of Advertising: the 60s.
