Oscar nominations are out this morning. Everyone apparently loves Babel, they love Dreamgirls, but not enough for a best picture nomination, Leonardo DiCaprio’s hideous accent in Blood Diamond earned him a best actor nod, and no one seems to be pointing out that Marky Mark was nominated for best supporting actor. MARKY MARK.
The Departed was really good (and Marky ain’t such a slouch actor). Again, I’ve seen about 1% of the nominated movies.

Hm. I’ve seen exactly 5 movies on that entire page.
Suddenly the absence of a dollar movie theater in town becomes starkly apparent. 75 cent Tuesdays back at school was where I saw all my movies last year.

Paul, I agree; Mark Wahlberg is a fine actor. He was also Marky Mark in a former life and really, I just don’t think it’s fair to let him live that down.

I am deeply disturbed by the lack of body hair. I think MM may be a laboratory creation.

Babel sucks huge Donkey-Balls. It was worse than Crash and Crash was one of the worst films of last year.
Why the hell was Children of Men not nominated for Best Film of the Year??? It was 125% better than anything nominated. Children of Men is the second best film I have ever seen. And I’ve seen them all.
I have seen all these films and here’s my take: The Oscars are bullshit, it’s like they get a room full of semi-retarded producers (Bruckheimer?) and they drool, vote, and throw feces.
The only performance nominated even remotely deserving in the “Performance by an actor in a leading role” is Peter O’Toole’s in “Venus”. Leo is great in The Departed but he sucks Monkey-Socks in Blood Diamond. This ain’t opinion. Dude can’t even keep an accent (besides a Boston accent) in ANY FILM he’s in.
Mark Wahlberg in “The Departed” should win for Supporting. Comparatively speaking, anyway.
Helen Mirren in “The Queen” for Best Female. No question.
Monster House for animated film.
Pan’s Labyrinth for AD.
Cinematography? Children of Men. The best film of 2006.

Well, Marky is the inspiration for Entourage, which is a fine show.

Children of Men was plaqued by a crappy title. It came out at the same time as Little Children and probably got confused by the general movie going audience. That’s why it didn’t get the exposure it should have; it is an amazing creation and a thing to behold.

Wow so agreed that Babel was a total waste of time. What a preachy movie about nothing that goes nowhere and pretends it is important.
Crash was the same preachy drama garbage, but at least crash saved itself a little bit at the end and had some actual decent acting performances and scenes. Not good either, but not outright bad like Babel was.
