I love group94‘s temporary site. First of all, unlike some recent sites we’ve discussed, group94 doesn’t come across as pretentious. Second, they manage to still show recent work in an engaging, clever way. Third, that whole grid/grid-typography layout is the cat’s meow. Fourth, they always have stellar work, temporary site or no.

Get that corn outta my face!

• Box of 25 classy, understated Stop Talking cards.

• Box of 25 bold, subtle You Are a Douche cards.

Dotcomrade Dave Werner is on the speaker list for the 2007 HOW Conference in Atlanta in June. He’ll be presenting on Self-Promotion and Portfolios in the Digital Age, a topic he seems to know a thing or two about. Congrats, Dave!

CrossConnector is similar to Basecamp, only it is specifically for organizing/managing mission trips. (via Matt Donovan)

CNN Money on the 101 Dumbest Moments in Business. Wal-Mart dominates the field by taking the #1 spot, along with 5 other dumb moments. I can’t see how Northwest’s #2 snafu didn’t take the top prize.

Speaking of graphically represented data, LeisureArts presents Is The New, which documents every instance of the phrase “is the new” they encountered from various sources in 2005. Mapping iterations is awesome, too.

The State of the Union Address graphically represented by word count. I find it interesting that he’s used the phrase “climate change” exactly once, in this year’s Address. Beautiful, graphic representation of data is awesome.

I like this Toyota Human Touch tv spot. It’s slightly creepy and wonderfully creative in execution and direction.

Patterns on Flickr, from buses, trains, airports/planes, etc. I enjoy this one.

Help me out here… I have a bunch of old .avi videos. I want to put them in a usable format (.mov, .mp4, etc.) but I do not have Quicktime Pro. Any thoughts?

How To Get Rid of Stuff. Gnats, in-laws, skunk smell, blood stains on your carpet, boyfriends, etc. Handy?

“Hi. Do not delete it please. I need money urgent.”
Anonymous spammer attempting to post comment spam

It pulls on my heartstrings… it really does. Such vulnerability and, it must be said, urgency in your voice (typing). So fragile and exposed… like the tiny bonsai tree on the side of the perilous cliff in Karate Kid III.

But don’t we all need money urgent, Anonymous Spammer? And thus, you are deleted. All 81 of the posts wherein you and your spammer kin begged (pleaded, even!) for comment moderation mercy.

Studio tour of artist Josh Keyes’ work environment. Quirky and wonderful; peeks inside studios/work spaces are always fascinating to me. Related: Josh Keyes interview and JoshKeyes.com (via Yewknee)

Virgin America has some nifty in-flight features on their new planes like power outlets (about time), USB/ethernet ports, and touchscreens with live TV, Pay-Per-View movies, food ordering from your seat, video games, an mp3 library, and IM/on-flight chat rooms. The interface looks slick and intelligent. Unfortunately, the U.S. Department of Transportation has rejected Virgin America’s airline application. You can find out more at letVAfly.com.

The only problem with Microsoft is they just have no taste. They have absolutely no taste. And what that means is, I don’t mean that in a small way, I mean it in a big way. In the sense that they don’t think of original ideas, and they don’t bring much culture into their product… And so I guess I am saddened, not by Microsoft’s success. I have no problem with their success. They’ve earned their success… for the most part. I have a problem with the fact that they just really make third rate products.

Oscar nominations are out this morning. Everyone apparently loves Babel, they love Dreamgirls, but not enough for a best picture nomination, Leonardo DiCaprio’s hideous accent in Blood Diamond earned him a best actor nod, and no one seems to be pointing out that Marky Mark was nominated for best supporting actor. MARKY MARK.

I have VIRBº invites for anyone who posts a photo to Flickr holding a handmade sign that says “VIRB!” or some variation thereof. The photo must be tagged “virb”, added to the VIRBº Flickr Pool, and you have to post a link in the comment section of this post. After you have completed all these Herculean tasks, send me an email and I’ll send you your invite.

1, 2, 3, go!

Update: Some other kind folks with invities are weighing in and offering them up. Check the comments.

Quote, “iConcertCal is a free iTunes plug-in that monitors your music library and generates a personalized calendar of upcoming concerts in your city.” Windows and/or Mac. I haven’t used it yet, but I like the idea – even if the interface is still a bit lacking. (thanks Katie)

How to make a replica of Mad Max’s black-on-black Interceptor vehicle. I love the internet, specifically for the existence of such things.

Are any of you planning on attending SXSW this year? If so, which days? (I have attempted to make the trek to Austin every year for the past 3 years and I WILL NOT BE DETERRED THIS TIME.)
