The entire Connected Ventures office lip-syncing Harvey Danger’s Flagpole Sitta on Vimeo
(and watch out for that one little lyric of NSFWness, cubicle-dwellers)
Panic, the makers of Transmit FTP and other assorted Mac goodies, released Coda today. Coda is, as they say, one-window web development for the Mac; a text editor, CSS editor, simple ftp program, Terminal, and resource material all in one. The UI is fun and simple and the app just might be worth the $79 price tag. More later.
30 Polaroids in 30 Days – Day 11 (This is going better than expected.)
Pirates of Silicon Valley (a “docudrama” about the beginnings of the personal computer, Apple, and Microsoft), in its entirety.
Quote, “According to the economic concept of equilibrium, people will move or change jobs to make up for imbalances in compensation. Commute time should be offset by higher pay or lower living costs, or a better standard of living. It is this last category that people apparently have trouble measuring. They tend to overvalue the material fruits of their commute—money, house, prestige—and to undervalue what they’re giving up: sleep, exercise, fun.” Very long, very well-written and informative The New Yorker article on American commuter culture. Block off some time today to read it.

Some NSFW language, but by far the funniest thing I’ve seen today. That guy’s Blaine impersonation is hysterically over-the-top, yet somehow still spot-on.
BibliOdyssey is a collection of illustrations from books, science, history, etc. and is full of “Visual Materia Obscura” and “Eclectic Bookart.” It’s a huge, oft-updated resource of printed materials.
You can download the full album analog remix of John Vanderslice’s Pixel Revolt for free. (thanks Kory)
Quote, “I painted my walls a dramatic red and threw shaggy Urban Outfitters rugs in every room. Her walls are covered with peeling floral wallpaper; the room is bare save for a stripped, stained mattress shoved in a corner.” Thoughts on New York apartment living, dying neighbors, and being neighborly in this The Morning News essay from Sarah Hepola.
The Carpenters are Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft. What the foxtrot is going on? I can’t believe this exists. (Be sure to stick around for the guitar solo.)
The Motherfuton™ is back online. And there was much rejoicing. (yaaaaay…)
If I had any doubts about StumbleUpon and the amount of users they have, said doubts have been laid to rest while I’m averaging a referral to Notes to Self every 10 seconds or so for the past few days.
1. Vimeo‘s own Jakob Lodwick talks about the site and its purpose.
2. Mustache.
3. The more I browse around on Vimeo, the more I like it. There’s such a great community there, and since all the clips are 100% user generated (unlike say YouTube), I constantly find new and interesting things/clips/people. As soon as a manage to procure a replacement digital camera, I’ll be uploading to my profile with gusto.
The BB/Saunders Journal – 365 is a clever journal for designers and typography lovers. You can pick one up at Blanka. (Matthew Wahl just got his and has already gotten started.)
Quote, “Pricing is not a mystical art, rather pretty simple math, you just need to know the formula. If you are a vendor, know your market rates, know your costs and know your hourly. If you are a client, do your research, know your internal weaknesses and share your budget.” Interesting and thorough article on pricing a web design project.
