Not sure I completely agree with it. Sometimes its just easier to meet in person and say something in 2 minutes, than to write an email or post a message where there is no interaction (where you can pick up body language, tone, etc). But I do agree 90% of meetings 1) have too many people, 2) are to unfocused, 3) completely wastes of time.
Unless I have a whiteboard or moleskin to draw on/in I prefer not to prefer meetings of any sort, size or location. If I am forcefully pressured into white-shirtism I usually disappear into Brainville with some sort of writing/sketching utensil while the robots make all their robot noises. On/Off, On/Off. Malfunction. Failure.

“Stand-up meetings” don’t count. I’m all for personal interaction, but most meetings are complete time-wasters with no agenda.
semanticals.i love to waste people’s time. its all i ever do.
Perhaps you Virbinc boys should have a meeting on how to reduce the 30-second load times on Virb.
Cool!
Meetings Are Toxic
Mon 08/06/07
One of the things I am enjoying about my new job is the lack of meetings. During my tenure at my previous employ, I was in 2-3 meetings a day on average which managed to kill productivity, disrupt my workflow, and generally not accomplish anything informative or beneficial. (More thoughts on meetings can be found in 37signals’ Getting Real.)
