They have a firm stand on not allowing comments, but with the new version they have allowed hooks for each post that allows you to add any sort of blog modification you want (i.e. comments!). I’m not sure if many people know about that, but I’m sure someone will eventually create an easy-install extension.
You can setup a http://disqus.com commenting system on Tumblr with really easy instructions and a copy and paste link in every post. Not too bad.
I’m a fan of no comments stance
I understand why they’re not doing it. But for me, part of blogging is the prospect of commentary from the great community of individuals who read this site. Obviously, then, Tumblr is not for me. It is for monologuing.
