Absolutely one of my favorite TV shows. It satisfies all my nerd tendencies, but as evidence of its broader appeal, my totally non-nerd, non-scifi-loving wife totally loves the show as well.
Characters and story-telling, man.
And mind blowing space battles.
Easily the best drama’s on TV … the name is its big detractor, and keeps many people from even considering watching it (which is unfortunate because it toes the line so well of being barely a SciFi show — no lasers or weird alien beings, fairly plausible world with phones, bullets, fuel, cancer and nuclear weapons; and touches huge subjects with great subtlety). Love. It. (though now, with out cable, have to wait 8 days to see episodes).
The first season, television history. Oh the fraking epicness! The second one? Meh, alright. Towards the end of that and season three, are you kidding me? Utter shit. Sorry but really BSG, really? I dont think so. Tuneing in on the hopefully final piece with season number four is okay so far and hopefully turns out to be good in the end. ;)
Interview with Battlestar Galactica Re-Creator Ron Moore

This sums it up:
I’ll put it plainly, if you’ve never seen the new Battlestar Galactica, you’re missing out on one of the best shows on television. If you rent the mini-series and you don’t get hooked, I’ll be shocked.
