What Part of Legal Immigration Don’t You Understand?

This Terry Colon illustration from the October issue of Reason Magazine is clever, well-executed and informative. No small feat when you’re talking about the U.S. immigration process and what has to be almost insurmountable bureaucracy.

Is the process difficult? Yes. Should it be? Probably.

But, the first thing that struck me as funny was the irony that an complicated legal immigration system can be boiled down to a CARTOON MAP.

Being an international worker working in the US, the process is captured very very accurately.

“Is the process difficult? Yes. Should it be? Probably.” I dont disagree with that statement, except that when you make the process this difficult, and to a certain extent unattainable, it does lead to a lot of talented technical workers proliferating outside of the US. Which is turns contributes to outsourcing of jobs etc (amongst other factors).

    Just a thought.

The ability to present complex information in an easily understandable fashion is the mark of a good designer. I think that’s what Josh is getting at.
