Little Apple Annoyances
I adore Apple products. I am one of those few blessed souls whose first real forays into computer life (other than checking email) occurred on an Apple computer (running OS X no less.) I am thankful that I work all day long on a machine that makes my life easier, as opposed to one that fights against me. That being said, there are a few small things that annoy me about Mac life. If any of you know how to fix any of these annoyances, please feel free to let me know.
- When I hit apple+tab to scroll through open applications, if the app I want is minimized in the dock (something I used to make a habit out of since I hate having lots of windows visible at once) and I select that app, it makes it the foremost app, but it doesn’t maximize the window. Lately I just hide the apps i’m not using, but i’d rather have them in the dock.
- My files are typically very organized and I make frequent use of color labels in the Finder window. Color organization is great, but only having seven (ugly) colors to choose from is not. I do not want pastel-shaded files. The orange and yellow are unbearable to use. How difficult would it be to let me choose custom colors via a color wheel or even just a websafe palette?
- Still no tabs in iChat. Ugh.
- I have to download a separate program (Transparent Dock) to customize the appearance of my dock. Shouldn’t this be built in to the dock preferences?
- Connecting to other computers in the network takes me about three clicks too many, not to mention the TWO annoying dialogue boxes that pop-up when any computers disconnect from the network.
- Why is SECURE empty trash not accessible from the trashcan icon or via keystroke? Am I the only one who uses it?
That’s it. Those are the only things that really annoy me. And I admit that most of these are more aesthetic in nature than anything else. And i’m nitpicking, too.
